Stamp Tax
In Belize, Stamp Tax is a tax imposed on property transactions. It is governed by the Stamp Duties Act of Belize.
In Belize, stamp duty, also known as transfer tax, is levied on real estate transactions. The stamp duty rate varies depending on whether the buyer is a local or a foreigner. For Belize and CARICOM nationals, the stamp duty is 5% of the land’s value if it exceeds $10,000. For non-residents (foreigners), the stamp duty rate is 8% on land transactions above the same threshold.
A property transfer to a foreigner (non-national) via an IBC is subject to a reduced stamp tax rate of 7% of the land value.
Stamp Tax on Property Purchased by Belize Nationals & Residents = 5%
Stamp Tax on Property Purchased by Foreigners = 8%
Stamp Tax on Property Purchased by Foreigners Using an IBC = 7%
The stamp tax is based on the land value at the time of sale. The first $10,000 USD in land value is exempt from Stamp Tax. Any amount above $10,000 USD is taxable.
